Cheesecloth is inexpensive, easy to find in stores and handy throughout the house. Purchase it in small packages for household chores or by the yard or by the bolt for craft projects. With the following terrific ideas, you're sure to need lots of cheesecloth.
Instructions
1. Pack the turkey stuffing in a large square of cheesecloth. Gather the corners of the square and push it into the bird. Remove the dressing from the cooked turkey by simply pulling out the cheesecloth.
2. Make a butterfly net for the kids. Sew a cheesecloth bag, then glue or staple it to a circular hoop fashioned from a wire coat hanger. Send the child off to hunt for butterflies or to catch minnows on the next fishing trip.
3. Vacuum a junk drawer without removing the contents. Rubber band a piece of cheesecloth over the nozzle of the sweeper hose. Pick up dust and grit without vacuuming up little screws or other small objects.
4. Wrap herbs in cheesecloth and hang them to dry. Seeds and smaller dried pieces won't be lost.
5. Create a food tent for the next picnic. Use an old umbrella form and remove the handle with a hacksaw. Wrap the wire form with cheesecloth and secure the fabric with a needle and thread. Take the resulting mesh tent to the next picnic to shelter food from pesky bugs.
6. Brighten a room with colorful, instant curtains. Dye inexpensive cheesecloth and cut it to the correct lengths and widths. Use clip-on cafe curtain rings and the panels are ready to hang.
7. Wrap a child head-to-toe in narrow cheesecloth to create a mummy costume for Halloween. Tuck the ends of the strips of cheesecloth under a few layers and pull them through and let them trail from legs and arms. Take care that excess pieces aren't long enough to cause tripping.
