Buy Oats Wheat & Corn In Bulk

Oats, Corn and Wheat can be bought in bulk and stored in your pantry.

Oats, corn and wheat have a variety of uses in the home kitchen. If you live far away from a store or like to make your own flours, having these items in your pantry in bulk can save you a lot of time and money. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Types

When purchasing oats, corn and wheat in bulk, consider your uses before you buy. If you are purchasing these items for animal feed to mix up yourself, then going to a feed store will be your best option. However, if you are feeding humans, then look for a local food co-op that can help you locate these items in bulk.

Considerations

Compare prices when shopping for bulk oats, corn and wheat. Ask local farmers what they would charge for a 25 or 50 pound bag. Talk with your local food co-op or bulk foods store and find out their prices. Check the Internet for online sellers of bulk foods. Online sellers often offer 5-gallon pails or 25 and 50 lb bags of grain, but the shipping costs are usually high, so factor this into your comparison. If you live very far from a bulk foods store, the cost of shipping may be worth it compared to your gas and time getting there.

Warning

When buying foods in bulk, particularly grains, be sure to store them in cool, dry place. If you are unable to use your oats, corn or wheat in a timely fashion, they are at risk of going rancid. If you are unsure if you'll be able to use all of your bulk item before it goes bad, freeze some of it in bags or containers. This will help the oats, corn or wheat last longer.
