Creating lip gloss from crayons is useful to girls who live in rural areas where stores may not supply it, and is an interesting do-it-yourself project for those who enjoy arts and crafts. Does this Spark an idea?

1. Remove any paper wrapping and place the crayons in the mortar. It's ideal to use about six regular-sized crayons because larger crayons are more difficult to crush with the pestle.

2. Use the pestle to crush the crayons into a thick, powdery substance. Use enough force to crush the crayon into smaller and smaller bits. Continue doing this until the crayons become a consistent, powdery texture.

3. Pour the crushed crayons into a bowl and stir in 2 tbsp. of petroleum jelly. The mixture should have a thick and sticky texture.

4. Take two aloe leaves and cut the green skin from the aloe plant so that the insides of the plant are revealed. Take only the inside of the aloe plant, not the skin, and place it into the mixture. Aloe vera is used to help moisturize the lips; it contains vitamin E which helps the hair, skin and nails. Stir until a consistent texture is obtained.

5. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the contents of the bowl into an oven-safe container and then into the oven for five minutes. Let the mixture cool for 10 minutes.

6. Place the mixture into a small container that will be used for the lip gloss. Apply the lip gloss as desired.
