Located on the far northeast side of Indiana, the city of Portland is a quintessential small town with tree-lined streets, American flags and friendly residents who welcome you into their lives. Tourists to the area enjoy the specialty and antique shops, lots of festivals and the world's largest gas engine and tractor show. El Camino Real
If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, this is the place to go in Portland. It may not look like much from the outside, but the d cor is easily appreciated on the inside. And it has the service and the food to match. The portions are generous, full of flavor and great for lunch the next day. That's not a bad thing considering it's easy to fill up on the chips and homemade picante salsa before the entr e arrives.

River's Edge Restaurant
This place is small, but you get a big bang for your buck. You order at the counter and either get it to go, dine in or settle in the park just outside. Service is quick, the ingredients are fresh and the portions are huge. The Santa Fe sandwich, with thinly sliced turkey, pepper-jack cheese and Chipotle mayo is delicious. Add a bowl of homemade Tex-Mex ground beef stew.

Tom & Rod's Steakhouse
This tavern-style restaurant has the typical bar d cor, but the service is friendly and the prices are reasonable. Lots of people visit for the home-cooked fare on the buffet, and the steaks. The steaks are good, but the breaded pork tenderloin is even better: a classic with a huge plate of fries.
