Cook Quaker Grits

Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to avoid burning the grits.

The Quaker Oats Company's roots go back to 1850, and they were the first company to register a trademark for a breakfast cereal in 1877. Today, the company makes a variety of cereals include several varieties of instant grits. Grits are coarsely ground hominy with the germ removed. And the Quaker grits can be made in just a few minutes either the microwave or on the stove. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Measure 1 1/3 cup of water or milk and pour it into a medium saucepan. If you want to make the grits in the microwave, add the water to a large microwave-safe bowl.

2. Add 1/3 cup of Quaker-brand grits to the water or milk.

3. Add 1/8 tsp. to the pan and stir all of the ingredients together.

4. Turn the burner onto medium heat and begin to stir the grits. If you want to microwave the grits, place the grits into the microwave for two minutes and 25 seconds.

5. Continue stirring the grits on the stove. This is especially important if you use milk instead of water, as the milk could burn on the bottom of the pan. When the grits reach the desired consistency, which usually takes around three minutes, remove the pan from the heat and pour the grits in a bowl to serve.

6. Add any garnish to the grits that suites your taste, such as a pad of butter or some grated cheddar cheese.
