Eating a warm bowl of chili on a cold winter day provides warmth and comfort until it lands on your carpet. An orange-brown chili carpet stain may look devastating, but you can remove it from the carpet if you act quickly. Chili contains a variety of ingredients, but the main ingredient consists of tomato sauce. Treat the chili stain as a tomato-based stain to remove the dark stain from the carpet successfully. Instructions
1. Remove the chili ingredients from the carpet by picking them up with a paper towel. Scrape the surface with a dull butter knife carefully to remove any dried soup.
2. Blot the carpet surface with paper towels to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Do not press hard or rub on the carpet because you can spread the stain.
3. Combine 1 tablespoon of liquid dish detergent with 2 cups of water in a bowl. Blot the chili stain with a sponge soaked in the soapy water until the stain vanishes.
4. Remove lingering chili stains with rubbing alcohol. Dampen a clean washcloth with rubbing alcohol and blot the surface until you remove as much of the chili stain as possible.
5. Treat tough chili stains with 1 tablespoon of ammonia mixed with 1/2 cup of cool water. Dampen a sponge with the mixture and blot it onto the surface until you absorb all of the tomato stain.
6. Soak a clean sponge in water. Wring out the excess water and blot the carpet to rinse it thoroughly. Blot the carpet with a dry washcloth and place a fan next to the area to dry it quickly.
