Feeding a family on a budget is not as hard as you might think--if you're willing to do some planning and work at it. Pre-planning is the key. Through the use of budgeting techniques, frugal living, sale shopping and coupons, you can feed a family of five on a low budget. It can be worth the work in the long run, especially in terms of reducing stress in your life.
Instructions
1. Search the web and buy a Sunday paper to look through the grocery sales. Make your weekly menu based upon what items are on sale. Also note whether there are any items that you purchase often that are on sale. Add the menu items and the sale items to your list. Do not deviate from your list when you're at the store--no impulse buying!
2. Start a list of often-purchased items and note the prices. Watch the sales circulars and check stores' websites, then stock up on those items when they go on sale.
3. Cut out coupons found in the Sunday paper (if the store requires the physical coupon) and search online for additional coupons. Match coupons to sale items for additional savings. When you have a coupon for an item, mark it on your list so you will not forget to use the coupon.
4. Search the websites of often-purchased items to see if there are any online coupons or special rebates available. Also, you can contact the company directly and ask them to mail additional coupons to you.
