Fresh Cranberries To Any Cake Mix

Fresh cranberries can be added to cake mix.

Cranberries are popular, red tangy berries that are rich in antioxidants and other phytonutrients. Due to their tart flavor, cranberries are often mixed with sweet fruit, juices or pastries such as muffins and cakes. You can add canned or frozen cranberries to your favorite cake recipes. However, these cranberry products may contain too much sugar or artificial flavorings. Use fresh cranberries and reduce the sugar content and artificial flavorings in your cake. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Place 1/2 cup fresh cranberries in a bowl of cold water and swish them around with your fingers. Discard any berries that float to the surface, as these are unripe berries. Rinse the fresh cranberries under running water, drain and set aside.

2. Prepare your cake mix according to the package directions or your favorite cake recipe.

3. Pour the fresh cranberries carefully into the prepared cake mix. Gently fold the cranberries into the cake mix using a spatula, to prevent the cranberries from breaking apart.

4. Place the cranberry cake in the oven and bake according to the recipe or the instructions on the cake mix package.
