Urban Bedroom Ideas

Get ideas for your urban bedroom.

The urban bedroom is a retreat from the hustle of the city while catering to the many tasks the modern adult performs on a daily basis. A few ideas dominate the urban bedroom and they focus on opening up the room, using every bit of available space and incorporating history into otherwise modern spaces. Does this Spark an idea?

Monochromatic

Probably one of the most recognizable urban style choices is the monochromatic room. The monochromatic palette opens up the typically small urban spaces whether in tawny browns or mod whites. A favorite trick of high-end urban hotels, this color scheme makes the room feel bigger and ties different functional areas of the room together. However, to prevent the space from seeming flat or yawn-worthy, pair a monochromatic scheme with a variety of textures and accessory sizes to keep the space visually interesting.

Multi-Use

Typically limited on square footage, urban spaces make use of every chance for multi-use furniture. Ottomans that convert to mini coffee tables with drink tray tops and space inside to store extra blankets or pillows are a well-known example of such furniture. However, some urban spaces take this concept to the extreme. Bon Bon's sofa bed/bunk bed combo was featured on the website Web Urbanist for this reason. This normal-looking sofa transforms into a functioning bunk bed with a few flips and hardware adjustments. Flying Beds, also featured at Web Urbanist, features a new trend in transforming bedroom sets that incorporate the need for a small home office and a place to sleep. When looking for items in your bedroom, only your imagination and budget limit your functionality.

Reusing

HGTV used an artistic piece of architecture salvage from an early 1900s brownstone to add art and texture to its Urban Oasis bedroom. This concept of reusing anything that can be repurposed including art, furniture and clothing is one of the essential concepts of the modern urban space. Feel free to refinish your grandmother's broken dresser and repurpose it as an entryway table with shoe storage. Reusing old signs and posters from days gone by is a favored and well-used decor choice for a reason: It gives new life to old items and brings history into modern spaces.
