Make Nonpoisonous Squirrel Repellent

Squirrels are notorious for eating any food they can find during the autumn months. If you have a garden, a squirrel problem can be devastating. A small garden can be destroyed in a matter of days if the squirrel problem isn't taken care of immediately. The most obvious solution is to set out squirrel traps, but many people would rather take a more humane approach. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Examine the garden carefully to find which plants are attracting the squirrels. They tend to prefer sweeter foods, so pay attention to tomatoes or any other type of fruit that may be growing in the garden.

2. Pour Tabasco or any other type of hot pepper sauce at the base and on the leaves of the affected plants. Peppers are the best known natural repellent for squirrels. If the smell isn't enough to turn them away, then the taste will be more than enough to keep them from coming back.

3. Sprinkle cayenne powder directly on the fruit or vegetables that the squirrels are attracted to. Cayenne powder works in the same way as hot pepper sauce, but it is easier to wash off and less likely to affect the taste of your crops.

4. Sprinkle cayenne along the edges of your garden.

5. Remove any standing water or food from your yard to make it look less attractive to squirrels. The smallest pile of pet food or bird seed is enough to keep a squirrel coming back to your yard.
