Colleges Around Salem Oregon

Oregon's capital city, Salem, has much to offer in terms of higher education. Salem has several thriving colleges and universities, including the oldest college in the West. These schools will appeal to anyone looking to study at a university with small enrollment, a small student-to-faculty ratio and opportunities to quickly earn a degree.


Willamette University


Willamette University is a private university located in Salem. Founded in 1842, Willamette has the distinction of being the oldest university in western United States. The campus is located on 69 acres of land directly across from the Oregon State Capitol. According to Willamette's website, the university features a residential undergraduate College of Liberal Arts and three professional graduate schools: the College of Law, Atkinson Graduate School of Management and the Graduate School of Education.


Chemeketa Community College


Chemeketa Community College is a community college system, with the main campus located in Salem. Smaller campuses are located in McMinnville, Brooks, Eola, Dallas and Woodburn. As of 2011, Chemeketa serves over 50,000 students in Oregon's Mid-Willamette Valley. Founded in 1969, Chemeketa Community College offers associate degrees and certifications in several different fields, such as: business technology, criminal justice, english, nursing, human services and speech.


Corban University


Corban University is a private Christian university located in Salem. Founded in 1935, the college offers more than 50 majors and programs for undergraduate and graduate students. According to Corbin University's official website, the university in consistently ranked in the top ten of U.S. News & World Report's Best Regional Colleges in the West. An annual enrollment of slightly over 1,000 students, plus the 13-1 student-to-faculty ratio ensures that every professor is accessible for the students.


Tokyo International University


Tokyo International University is a college affiliated with Willamette University. With its campus building located within Willamette, Tokyo International University offers a one-year program primarily for Japanese students. Founded in 1965, Tokyo International University's one year program focuses on the development of English language fluency, study alongside the Willamette community and special subject areas by way of elective courses. According to its official website, Tokyo International University aims to "enables students to pursue academic goals, develop intercultural awareness, and explore personal values and interests."
