The Chopping Block claims to be Chicago's biggest recreational cooking school. It offers cooking classes on ethnic food, vegetarian and seasonal meals. It also hosts private cooking parties for bridal showers, birthdays and more. The program has innovative and worldly teachers including editor and writer, food stylist, cooking instructor and chef Lillian Chou from China.

The Wooden Spoon


The Wooden Spoon offers a wide range of cooking classes specializing in diverse cuisine including Asian, Coastal, Mediterranean, Italian and Indian food. The classes offer unique experiences for students. For instance, the Couples' Cooking: Date Night class provides students with a romantic night together learning new skills. Instructors cover many different courses including appetizers and desserts. They typically hold classes that last for a few hours in one day. Classes are usually affordable, ranging in price from $65 to $75 in 2010.

The French Pastry School


The French Pastry School offers full-time students 16 to 24 college credits with a cooking school that is accredited by the Illinois Community College Board. It has three programs that help students become working professionals by letting them learn from innovative teachers. The programs include a full-time, 24-week program called L'Art de la Pâtisserie, a full-time, 16-week program focusing on cakes called L'Art du Gâteau, and courses for continuing education students.
