Bright spring flowers are just one of many gift choices for the woman in your life.
Flowers, candy and perfume were long the standard gift items for men to buy for the women in their lives. While those remain good choices, look for a gift that truly matches the recipient's taste, interests and lifestyle. Your gift should send the message that you have put serious thought into pleasing the recipient and that you have used imagination, thoughtfulness and care in selecting her gift.
Instructions
1. Buy her a gift that shows that you know what is important to her. Think about your recent shared activities, conversations or other exchanges that clue you in to her true interests. If she has repeatedly mentioned a new restaurant, take her there for a meal. If she loves a certain composer, a boxed CD gift set of his music would be a great gift. Does she love to experiment in the kitchen? If so, enroll her in a class at a local cooking school. Do you both enjoy Latin dancing? Sign up for a salsa class you can enjoy together.
2. Pay attention to her likes and dislikes. Don't give new hiking boots to a woman who hates the outdoors, or gourmet chocolates to a health nut, for example. Do get passes to the local museum's upcoming Monet exhibit for an impressionist art aficionado, tickets to a playoff game for a baseball fanatic, or concert tickets for a symphony buff.
3. Make sure your gift is appropriate for your relationship. Avoid overly extravagant gifts for casual friends. Don't buy intimate gifts for someone with whom you do not share a close or romantic relationship. Your gift should respect the nature and boundaries of your friendship. She will appreciate your sensitivity and thoughtfulness and respect you for not putting either of you in an awkward situation.
4. Ask a few of her close friends or relatives for gift ideas, or consider items she would love but probably wouldn't think to buy for herself. If she's a huge fan of a big country music star, surprise her with an autographed picture of her idol. Pick out a beautiful purse from a designer she admires. Give her a new gold chain for a special pendant.
5. Think about non-traditional gifts. A woman who is committed to charitable work would likely be touched by a gift to her favorite charity made in her name. For your dreamer or astronomy buff, have a star named in her honor through the International Star Registry. Create your own booklet of coupons for special treats or fun outings she will enjoy.
