What Foods Contain Avena Sativa

Avena sativa is the scientific name for the common oat. The oat has many uses and benefits. It is an excellent source of fiber. It has also long been used as an aphrodisiac and it also offers weight-loss benefits, heart benefits and is a strong source of antioxidants. There are many avena sativa supplements available, but these are unnecessary because oats are used in many different types of food.

Breakfast Cereals

Breakfast cereals have long been designed to be healthy. Though some cereals are sugary and unhealthy, companies like Kellogg's have led the way in producing healthy cereal. Oats are one of the most common ingredients in most healthy breakfast cereals. Kellogg's integrates oats into cereals like cornflakes, Cheerios and Total. Eating a bowl of healthy breakfast cereal helps to integrate this important grain into your diet. An especially good cereal is Total. Total has an extremely large amount of most vitamins and minerals, and especially avena sativa.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of the oldest meals in the world. Made of crushed oat grains, it is naturally a great source for avena sativa. The healthiest oatmeal you can buy is the traditional, unflavored variety that you must either boil or bake. Instant oatmeal is an acceptable source for avena sativa, but it often integrates chemicals for taste and coloring. If you want to avoid these chemicals, or if you are allergic to them, buy plain oatmeal and flavor it with bananas, apples or brown sugar.

Breads

Breads are made mostly of various grains and flours. Wheat and grain breads are among the healthier carbohydrates and oat bread is the healthiest. It is one of the highest sources of avena sativa you can consume. Try to integrate oat bread into your diet; instead of wheat or white bread for your turkey sandwich, use oat bread. Instead of processed turkey, use fresh turkey and a freshly cleaned leaf of lettuce to add taste and texture. Adding a slice of tomato makes this turkey sandwich even more healthy.

Oat Bran

Oat bran is the outer husk of the oat grain. It has the same nutritional value as oats and is sometimes included in products with oats. If the husk is left on, the product is labeled "oat grain." However, oat bran is also sold separately. Oat bran is often eaten as a cereal with milk poured directly on top. It is also used in many baking products. Oat muffins are popular and bakers have started to add oat bran to cakes to make a healthy and tasty snack. Oat breads are often sprinkled with oat bran to add to the flavor.

Oat Cakes

Oat cakes are made by adding oats to pancake mix. They make an excellent breakfast dish. When making oat cakes, you should use whole grain oats so you get all the nutritional value of the oat. If you cannot find whole-grain oats, try using oat bran.
