Vegan Restaurants Of Northwest Indiana

A vegan is someone who avoids exploiting animals in every aspect of their life. Vegans typically avoid eating any product derived from an animal, such as meat, dairy and eggs. Because of these diet restrictions, it's not always easy to figure out which restaurants serve vegan-friendly dishes. If you live in the northwest region of Indiana, there are a few options in your area.

Sahara Restaurant

Sahara Restaurant is located in Michigan City and serves Mediterranean cuisine. According to its website, the interior of the establishment is decorated to mirror the exotic feel of the Arab region. Some of their vegan-friendly dishes include falafel, hummus, the authentic Greek gyro and many other salads and sandwiches. The dishes are reasonably priced, some going for as little as $3.95.

Abstract Cafe

A reviewer on urbanspoon.com called it, a "city restaurant close to home." If you check out the gallery on Abstract Cafe's website, it looks like a classy New York City restaurant. It is located in Portage, and according to its website, features locally grown products on its menu. There are vegan-friendly dishes, from the risotto to the wild mushroom tart. Their entrees are a bit pricier than average, but there are plenty of options to choose from.

Pita Kabab

Pita Kabab is another eatery offering Mediterranean food, located in Schererville. All four reviewers on urbanspoon.com raved about the food. A few of their vegan-friendly meals include the falafel sandwich (for just $4.95), hummus and baba ghannouj, a puree of charbroiled eggplant, garlic and tahini, topped with chopped parsley and olive oil.

Aladdin Pita

Aladdin Pita serves Middle Eastern cuisine in Merrillville. Some of their vegan-friendly dishes include the vegetarian shish kabab, Fasulia (green bean stew) and an array of sandwiches stuffed with plenty of vegetables.
