Start A Business Selling Handmade Cosmetics

The most important part of starting any home business is raising enough money for your start-up capital--this is the main reason that most new businesses fail. You should also learn as much as you possibly can about the cosmetics industry and about cosmetics in general. Make an extensive plan about what you will be making and write a mission statement for your company. Think up a name for your company that will represent it in the best way possible. 1. Learn as much about the cosmetics industry as you can and keep up on new developments and what is cutting-edge. You will need to know what kinds of products and what certain ingredients are in demand.


2. Find out what companies are the most popular in industry and try some of their products. This will help you to see what the customers like and what you will be competing with for sales.


3. Learn about the ingredients you will need to make your cosmetics and how they are made. For example, you will need to learn about specific preservatives and how much to add to your products. You also need to make sure your use ingredients that are FDA approved and rarely cause any allergic reactions.


4. Find companies that sell the ingredients you need in bulk. Plan out how much you are going to make, document how much money you are spending and order the amount of the ingredients that you need. Decide what kind of containers you want to put your products in for sale and order the amount you need. Its important that you record exactly how much money you spend.


5. Decide how much you will charging for them based on how much you spent in making them, and decide how much profit you want to make.


6. Sell your handmade cosmetics at flea markets and yard sales. Start a website for your company and network to get your business name out there. There are sites where you can set up an account to sell your products as well (see resources). Make business cards and fliers to help spread the word about your business.
