Founded in 1975, The Institute of Culinary Education, located in New York City, was ranked the No. 1 cooking school in the nation in 2008 by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. The school has consistently ranked in the top tier for the last decade, and its alumni regularly receive top industry awards for their skills. The school has six- to 11-month training programs in culinary arts, pastry and baking and culinary management. The institute also offers more than 1,600 "recreational" classes for amateur chefs, making it the largest cooking school in the nation.

Johnson & Wales University
Johnson & Wales University is a four-year college in Providence, Rhode Island, which has both two- and four-year degree programs in culinary arts. It also is highly rated by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. Culinary students also are required to take liberal arts and business classes to prepare them for careers in the hospitality field. An Associate of Science degree is offered in baking and pastry arts as well as culinary arts. A Bachelor of Science degree is offered in baking and pastry arts or culinary arts with a co-major in food service management, culinary nutrition and food service entrepreneurship. Online degrees also are offered.

Texas Culinary Academy
The Texas Culinary Academy, located in Austin, is also top-ranked by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. It is affiliated with Le Cordon Bleu restaurant schools. The Texas Culinary Academy was known as Le Chef College of Hospitality Careers when it was founded in 1981. Teaching is done in a 73,000-square-foot facility. It has an advanced program in baking and pastries, and also offers standard culinary school curriculum and food science classes.
