Wheatgrass
The liver is the body's principal detoxifying organ. Its function is to process and eliminate harmful and toxic substances from our body before they enter the bloodstream and cause damage. These substances can be anything from alcohol to drugs to pesticides on our food. Wheatgrass contains high levels of amino acids and enzymes that naturally detox the liver by pulling heavy metals and waste material from the bloodstream. Wheatgrass also opens blood vessels so the blood circulates more efficiently. Wheatgrass is available from health food stores in a variety of forms such as pills and powder, but the most efficient way to take it is in the form of fresh juice. Wheatgrass juice takes part of the burden off the liver, allowing it to catch up on its cleansing functions.
Instructions
Cleansing the Liver With Wheatgrass
1. Purchase fresh wheatgrass juice from a reputable health food store. Select a brand that is 100 percent pure and organic.
2. Take 1/8 cup of wheatgrass juice for your first dose. Consume the juice first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and follow immediately with 1 cup of water. Wait at least 1/2 hour before eating anything else. If you find that plain wheatgrass juice is too distasteful for you, you can add it 1/8 cup of 100 percent pure apple or orange juice. If you can juice your own apple or orange juice, do it. Otherwise, make sure you buy pure, organic apple or orange juice. Wheatgrass juice has a very powerful cleansing effect, and therefore can cause slight nausea if you take too much, too soon.
3. Continue with Step 2 for three days.
4. Increase your wheatgrass dosage on day four by adding another 1/8 cup dose in the evening, preferably on an empty stomach or 45 minutes before your last meal. If you find that adding the evening dosage makes you exceptionally nauseous, wait another week before trying it again in the evening. The nausea effect is from the cleansing of toxins from the system.
5. Continue your wheatgrass regimen as long as you like. A daily dose of wheatgrass, such as 1/8 cup first thing in the morning or at night, helps keep the liver clean and builds the immune system.
