Dye Wild Turkey Feathers

Dye Wild Turkey Feathers

Dyeing feathers is a useful process for a number of crafts. They can be used in simple decorations or more complex art. Turkey feathers are appropriate for a range of uses and add special flair to Thanksgiving decorations and crafts. The best way to dye turkey feathers is with heated dye not unlike dye for Easter eggs. The process involves careful preparation and a few specialized ingredients but is relatively simple and straightforward.

Instructions

1. Combine the dye with 1 cup water in one bowl, mix well, and add the feathers. Make sure they are all entirely submerged.

2. Cover the bowl with a paper towel and place in the microwave on high power for two to three minutes.

3. Remove the bowl from the microwave carefully. The bowl may be hot and the liquid certainly will be. Be careful not to spill.

4. Combine the remaining 2 cups water with the white vinegar in the second bowl.

5. Use the tweezers to remove the feathers from the dye mixture and transfer them to the water-vinegar mixture.

6. Wait for the feathers to cool and then remove them and place them on a paper towel to dry. Smooth out the feathers as necessary.
