Hospitality & Culinary Arts Programs

Culinary arts studies combine cooking, business and hospitality training.


Community colleges and technical schools across the country host certificate and associate's degrees granting culinary arts programs. Many of the programs infuse hospitality coursework into the curriculum, preparing graduates to lead food service operations as well as manage restaurants.


Allan Hancock College


Located in the metropolitan Los Angeles city of Santa Monica, Allan Hancock College's department of Applied Social Sciences features a Culinary Arts and Management academic degree program. The program offers several different options for students to specialize in like Restaurant Management, Food Production Supervision and Catering and Events Management, each of which is a certificate-granting program. Some of the coursework in these programs prepares students for transfer into hospitality and restaurant management baccalaureate programs within the public California State University system. In addition to classroom experience, students can also simultaneously earn credit and field experience through internships.

Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts in Pittsburgh


The Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts has locations all across the country, including in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition to a Culinary Arts program, the college also features a Hospitality & Restaurant Management program, which combines food management and hospitality business law, as well as wine studies. Through coursework emphasizing practical experience in cooking techniques and immersing students in the culinary and hospitality world, Le Cordon Bleu's Culinary Arts program prepares students for an associate's degree. Graduates pursue careers as apprentice chefs, caterers and kitchen managers, as well as a host of other careers. Le Cordon Blue Pittsburgh additionally features a program in Patisserie and Baking.

Savannah Technical College


Located in the Georgia city of Savannah, Savannah Technical College features two academic programs in culinary arts. The Culinary Arts Diploma program prepares students for accreditation as a Certified Culinarian from the American Culinary Federation. In addition to cooking technique courses like Baking Principles and American Regional Cuisine, students matriculated into the program also gain an education in hospitality through courses like Professionalism in Culinary Arts. The college's Culinary Arts Associate Degree program requires students to take general education core courses in addition to specialized culinary arts classes like International Cuisine and Food Service Purchasing and Control, as well as Principles of Cooking.
