Christian Culinary Schools

The culinary arts are a growing career field.

Culinary arts programs prepare students for careers in the food service industry. Christian culinary schools take that a step further and prepare students not only for the career, but as an added dimension of faith, as well. Many programs offer hands-on experience in addition to classroom theory, often in the form of apprenticeships or internships.

Christian Culinary Academy

Started by the chefs of the Christian Chefs Fellowship, the goal of this academy is to prepare students to enter into the food service industry with confidence. Students are taught the skills needed to become a chef and to integrate goals with faith. This is a one year intensive program, divided into two parts. The first part lasts nine months, and is the initial learning and theory section. The second part of the program lasts three months and is an internship in a school approved location. The school is located in Milwaukie, Oregon.

Bob Jones University

Located in Greenville, South Carolina, Bob Jones University is a fundamental Christian school. The school offers a number of degrees at the Associate, Bachelor's and Master's levels. Included in this is an Associate of Applied Science in the Culinary Arts. Students have the option of pursuing a higher degree in business or the school of religion. The program teaches professional culinary courses in addition to Bible and communication courses. There are service opportunities available with Christian organizations, including schools, camps and colleges.

College of the Ozarks

Just outside Branson, Missouri is College of the Ozarks, also known as Hard Work U. Students at this Christian school do not pay tuition, they work for their education. Which means they graduate without being in debt. Included in the course offerings is a Culinary Arts program, which prepares students for various careers in the food service industry. Classes are taught by college professors and local chefs. Students have the opportunity to work in the school kitchens, where they can experience the differences in preparing the quantities needed for a banquet versus what is needed for a fine dining restaurant.

Harvest Food Minstry Culinary Arts

This is a Christian faith based apprenticeship program designed by executive chef William Hofmann in Erie, Pennsylvania. Students entered in the program get certified in the Serv-Safe Sanitation course and receive an apprenticeship approved by the American Culinary Federation. Every quarter, the students create and prepare a banquet to feed those in need, and to give back to the community. The goal of the program is to help those who need a chance to gain a skill and be able to enter the workforce with confidence and experience.
