Vegetarian Food Gifts

Several recipes and food platters are fitting for vegetarians.


Choosing a food gift for a vegetarian can be difficult, especially if you are unsure about the types of food she eats. Some vegetarians just limit the types of meat that they eat and some refuse to eat any animal products. While purchasing a food gift, be sensitive to the beliefs of your friend.


Fruits and Cheese


Some vegetarians can appreciate a fruit and cheese gift basket. For instance, you can arrange a platter with Havarti, brie, grapes, strawberries and apple slices. Also include a sealed container with a tasty dip, such as caramel for the apples. If your friend does not consume any animal byproducts at all, fruit without the cheese is still a safe bet.


Baked Breads


A basket of fresh baked breads can make most vegetarians satisfied. Just analyze the ingredients used in the bread. Some vegetarians, such as lacto-ovo vegetarians, can eat eggs and dairy products. On the other hand, vegans refuse to eat eggs and dairy products because they are animal byproducts. If you have a hard time finding dairy-free and egg-free breads in your local grocery store, you can make buckwheat bread using carrots, buckwheat, chia seeds and salt.


Sweets


Some vegetarians are health nuts and they avoid sugar because they want to cleanse their bodies. However, some vegetarians can barely resist a sweet if it is made without animal byproducts. As an example, make vegetarian peppermint patties using corn syrup, carob chips or chocolate chips, powdered sugar, peppermint oil and vegan margarine spread. Alternatively, use peanut butter, vegan chocolate chips, salt and powdered sugar to make peanut butter cups. Then just put several treats together in a festive tin.


Homemade Meals


Surprise the vegetarian with a homemade meal that she appreciates. Ask the vegetarian ahead of time about her specific dietary restrictions. Some vegetarians, called semi-vegetarians, eat meat only once or twice a week. Some vegetarians won't even eat a meal cooked in a pan that was also used to cook meat. Vegetarian lasagna is appealing to many vegetarians. Also, cook with vegetarian protein products, such as tofu or lentils, because vegetarians need protein.
